The heartbeat behind
The Herbalist Hangout
The Herbalist Hangout exists as a living ecosystem.
The Earth is our foundation.
Community is our connective tissue.
Curiosity is our compass.
Reciprocity is our practice.
Humility is our medicine.
We believe that tending to ourselves, our communities, & the earth are deeply interconnected practices. We believe healing is rarely linear & that curiosity often serves us better than certainty. We believe some of our greatest teachers are found with dirt beneath finger nails: in gardens, in grandmother’s kitchens, in weathered well loved books, in community conversations, & in the quiet observation of the natural world.
Our approach is rooted in reciprocity, humility, & lifelong learning. We honor the wisdom carried through tradition while remaining open to emerging research & new understanding. We ask questions often. We welcome nuance. We recognize that what may support one person may not be the answer for another.
We value fair trade, ethical sourcing, seasonal living, & cultivating a relationship with the plants that care for us. Whether that’s growing herbs in backyard gardens, supporting local farmers, or simply learning the names of the wild plants already sharing our landscapes.
The Herbalist Hangout is a gathering place.
A space to pull up a chair to the table. To exchange stories & seeds. To celebrate small victories & honor difficult seasons. To remember that none of us were meant to navigate this life in isolation.
May we continue learning from the earth, caring for one another while we still can, & tending to the gardens we grow in our inner & outer world.
Thank you for being here.

Hello dear reader,
My name is Sarah & I am the herbalist & heartbeat behind The Herbalist Hangout. My passion for, & devotion to walking this path of holistically care taking was born out of pure necessity.
In 2012 I made the difficult decision to discontinue SSRIs after realizing that, in my own experience, not only had my emotional pain quieted, but so had my joy. My spark for life. I am not saying this is the right choice for everyone. Personally, there was no other option. A choice that seemed like defiance in the eyes of a handful of doctors unquestionably became a turning point in my healing journey. It led me to discover the potent herbal allies waiting just outside our doorsteps, hidden amongst the leaves of the trees & the soil of this earth.
Over the past fourteen years, I’ve immersed myself in exploring what it means to truly support well-being holistically without a band-aide remedy masking symptoms. From Ayurveda practices, Post Partum/Prenatal Doula care, Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), understanding how our beliefs & psychological programming shape our lived experiences, to nutrition that questions trending habits, traditional herbalism, tending to gardens , & the intricate relationship between humans & the natural world. I have remained endlessly curious.
I do not claim to know everything. I believe the practice of herbalism asks us to stay humble, to listen closely, question often, honor both tradition & new knowledge, & remember that learning never truly ends. I will remain a student, always eager to absorb & integrate new understanding as it unfolds with time.
The Herbalist Hangout was created as a safe space for that kind of learning: a place where curiosity is welcomed, where community matters more than perfection, & where we remember caring for ourselves, one another, & this earth are not separate practices, but deeply interwoven ones.
If you find yourself just stumbling onto this path, or have been walking it a while, I celebrate you all the same.
I’m honored to have you here & I hope you’ll stay awhile.
Sarah, The Herbalist Hangout
